Oakland Athletics Own Best Spring Training Record
- Updated: March 30, 2015
With only six days remaining in Spring Training, the Oakland Athletics once again lead all of Major League Baseball in wins (18-9). I know I know, it’s only Spring Training! For the better part of four years now, Oakland has been spectacular during Spring camp and it’s carried over to the regular season.
Some would make a case that the A’s are always in position battles and constantly bring in young guys that have to fight hard to earn the job in March. What team doesn’t have these issues though?
Year after year, the A’s are placed as mediocre and underdogs to take the AL West title. However, they keep building a team that wins and it’s always started with confidence and fine tuning in the Spring. With almost a complete roster overhaul, this Oakland team is shaping up to look like the previous teams that went onto the playoffs in three consecutive seasons.
The A’s bring in a whole new infield and three new starters to the rotation, but still look like the team that’s surprised everyone since Billy Beane took over this mess in the late 90’s. Oakland was supposedly in a rebuilding year, but let’s be realistic. Are the Athletics ever in a complete rebuilding year?
The answer is absolutely not! Billy Beane may not win World Series Championships, but you can guarantee that he’s going to put a very competitive team out there. Since taking over the General Manager position in 1998, the A’s have finished with a losing record only five times. That’s 12 winning seasons, only 5 losing seasons and they’ve made the playoffs 8 times in his 17 year career.
You’re probably thinking I’m Billy Beane’s lawyer at this point, but the point I’m trying to make is that Major League Baseball better watch out for the A’s again in 2015. This team is very young and will struggle to score runs at times, but don’t sleep on them because they’ll take the league by storm once again.
