Brandon Ingram Quietly Having A Breakout Season
- Updated: December 2, 2017
With all the hype and hoopla surrounding the rookie class, sometimes it is easy to forget that Brandon Ingram is also only 20 years old. Lonzo Ball gets all the headlines and Kyle Kuzma was just named rookie of the month, so Ingram has not got much attention. It is also worth noting that Ben Simmons is technically a rookie, but Ingram is actually closer in age to Lonzo Ball being only one month older.
Brandon Ingram only had two games all last year where he scored more than 20 points. This season, he already has four such games and two games with 30 points.
The game against the Warriors was a coming out party for Ingram, he proved that he can play with the best players in the league and have one of the finest games of his career. Kevin Durant is his idol and he made a play late in the game to steal the ball away from him and almost got an and one to tie the game up.
Durant Comparisons
Durant also said last season at the USA summer camp that looking at Ingram is like looking in a mirror for him. If it was based on last season’s performance, fans were probably thinking Durant was looking at a mirror in a fun house.
However, this season, Ingram is starting to look more and more like the legend that plays in the bay. His freakish length and agility are similar to Durant, and his breakout game against him is huge for his confidence. If he can continue to build off of this success, then his number two overall selection in the 2016 draft will be justified.
His future with the Lakers
Last season, Magic Johnson said that Ingram was an untouchable asset, but with Paul George possibly back on the trade market then that could still be a question. The Thunder are off to a shaky start this season, so they have to be thinking about possibly getting what they can for George before he bolts in free agency. But if the Lakers are the number one suitor for him, then they are better off just waiting it out and keeping the budding superstar Ingram.
