Eddie Rosario Disrespect Continues

It’s official: No one cares about Eddie Rosario.

At least, not as much as they should. The best player on the Minnesota Twins and the fourth-best outfielder in the American League is not an All-Star. Jean Segura, a very talented and deserving All-Star of the Seattle Mariners defeated him in the American League Final Vote.

If you compare Rosario and Segura’s stats, they are actually pretty equal players, with Segura putting up a better batting average and Rosario hitting for more power. In the end, Rosario losing to Segura is okay.

I mean, it never should have been put to the final vote to get Eddie Rosario into the game, but that’s the world we live in. Ignoring that, it’s okay that Rosario lost to Segura.

The real disrespect comes from our neighbors to the east. Fans of the Milwaukee Brewers did more than enough to get their Final Vote candidate, Jesús Aguilar, into the game. The two teams were supposed to be in this together.

The marketing departments of both teams put forth a campaign to vote for each other’s players on the opposite sides of the ballot.

That clearly didn’t work.

I see a few potential reasons for this. One, impartial fans viewed Aguilar’s resume as worthy of the All-Star Game and not Rosario’s. I find this one crazy, as I drool over Rosario’s numbers on a regular basis.

Another, maybe Brewers fans actively voted for other players. Why? Because last August Rosario made them mad. In the August 7, 2017 game between the two teams, Rosario’s antics on third base caused a balk, which won the game for the Twins. The Twins made the playoffs and the Brewers didn’t. Apparently crushing the Twins in 2018 wasn’t enough and they had to get personal revenge on Eddie. Immature, but I guess it’s understandable.

Either way, it’s disrespect.

Or maybe, and this is taking a lot of strength to suggest, it’s a secret, very quiet form of respect. Maybe the Brewers want Rosario to get as much rest as possible in the first half of next week so he can stay strong and energized in the last two and a half months of the season. The more rest Rosario gets, the better he will play and the Twins will make the playoffs.

I find this hard to believe, but I want to believe the Brewers had our best interests in mind. How could our Midwestern neighbors be so mean, otherwise? It’s just not possible.

So that’s it. Eddie Rosario was given the ultimate respectful gift, rest, by the Brewers. If the Twins don’t make the playoffs, however, I’m going to be very upset that Rosario didn’t make the All-Star Game.
