Leonard Fournette Injures Ankle During Scrimmage
- Updated: August 16, 2016
The Wisconsin Badgers have one of the toughest games to start the college football season. However, their path to a College Football Playoff spot may have gotten easier on Tuesday. According to various reports, running back Leonard Fournette injured his ankle during a scrimmage Tuesday.
The Heisman Trophy candidate is also a potential No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. So far, Fournette’s been injury free during his college career. But this ankle problem may persist if he comes back to soon.
The Badgers tussle with the LSU Tigers to open the season at Lambeau Field. The game has been circled on the calendar for months. The intrigue surrounded the matchup between the Badgers’ defense and the Tigers’ running game, mainly Fournette. The setback may put a damper on the game, but chances are Fournette will play.
Fournette sported a walking boot during the practice. The season is rapidly approaching. Thus, Fournette can’t tweak his ankle again.

During the press conference, head coach Les Miles revealed the extent of the ankle injury.
“Fournette got a slight sprain and is in a boot, and so we’re getting some of the healing going,” Miles said. “I don’t know [when he’ll be back] at this point, but I know it’s not. … In his words, he’ll be fine… It’s not terrible.”
The Badgers posted the best scoring defense in the nation last year. They held opponents to 13.7 points per game. They also held teams to 95 rushing yards per game. Without Fournette in the lineup, the Tigers could have a difficult time moving the ball. The Badgers made 72 tackles behind the line of scrimmage in 2015.
Meanwhile, Leonard Fournette was great last September. He carried the ball 73 times for 631 yards and scored eight touchdowns. Unfortunately, a hurricane forced the Tigers to cancel their first game with McNeese State.
